Blood Orange Valentine Gimlets

We can’t solely focus on chocolate around Valentine’s Day, surely anything pink and red also counts! And after I posted this on my stories the other week I got loads of messages from people wanting the recipe.

I love a gimlet. In fact, it’s my favorite cocktail. It makes sense because my sisters all love it and they recently told me it was also our mom’s favorite cocktail, which makes my heart happy. But I thought, there must be a fun way to make this pink to celebrate the best of the hallmark holidays. And then as I was at the store I thought, voila! Blood oranges are in season, they are gorgeous and will pair perfectly with gin.

So here we are, a happy little recipe that is delicious for any cocktail time whether it’s a holiday or not. And best thing, if you are having a friend or two over, you can make this all ahead of time and keep it chilled.  Just shake it with ice when ready to enjoy!

Makes 2 gimlets

  • 1 Tbs. sugar

  • 2 Tbs. fresh lime juice
  • about 2 1/2 ounces gin (I measure 1/3 c.)

Directions

  1. Add the sugar to a small bowl and pour 1 Tbs. water over the top. Microwave for 45 seconds until it’s bubbling and the sugar has dissolved, this is your simple syrup.
  2. Mix together the blood orange juice, fresh lime juice and simple syrup.
  3. Pour into a cocktail shaker with ice and add the gin on top. Shake vigorously and divide between two coupe glasses.
  4. Clink and enjoy!
